Ghizer Valley
A valley of rivers and light west of Gilgit — trout streams, green side-valleys and villages few travellers reach.
Overview
Ghizer is the westernmost district of Gilgit-Baltistan, followed by the Gilgit River as it runs from the Shandur Pass down toward Gilgit. It is a valley of clear water and open light — trout streams, poplar avenues, lakes and a string of green side-valleys — and it sees far fewer visitors than Hunza or Skardu.
Along and off the main Gilgit–Shandur road lie Gupis and Khalti Lake, the broad valley of Yasin and the remote reaches of Ishkoman. It is classic slow-travel country, best explored valley by valley, with Gahkuch and Gupis as natural bases.

Representative imageGupis & Khalti Lake
A green river town and a calm lake that freezes over in winter.
Gupis is a green river town on the Gilgit–Shandur road, about 112 kilometres west of Gilgit and one of the main stops in central Ghizer. Nearby lies Khalti Lake, a wide, calm lake fed by the Ghizer River that freezes in winter and mirrors the surrounding mountains in summer. The area is known for its trout, its orchards and its relaxed pace. Gupis is a natural base for exploring the side valleys of Ghizer — Yasin and Ishkoman — and for breaking the long journey toward Phander and the Shandur Pass.

Representative imageYasin Valley
A broad, fertile side-valley of villages, fields and old trekking routes.
Yasin is a broad, fertile side-valley of Ghizer, reached by a bridge off the main Gilgit–Shandur road. Watered by glacial streams and ringed by high peaks, it is a quiet region of villages, fields and old trekking routes that lead deep into the mountains toward the Darkot Pass. Yasin has a rich local history and culture and sees far fewer travellers than Hunza or Skardu, which is much of its appeal. It rewards those who want to experience everyday mountain life in Gilgit-Baltistan, away from the busier tourist trail.
